1. How will Rutgers handle Logan Thomas?
The 6-foot-6, 260-pound quarterback is not only a good thrower, but he’s also Virginia Tech’s leading rusher. Thomas has got all the natural tools to be an NFL quarterback (and is projected as a future first round pick). And at his size, he’s a tough guy to bring down, which will probably be Rutgers’ biggest issue with him.
2. Who will win Beamer Ball?
Rutgers’ success is predicated on big plays on special teams. That’s what Beamer Ball’s been all about. However, in recent years, Rutgers (38 blocked kicks in the past five seasons) has been much more successful at blocking kicks and punts than Virginia Tech (one blocked kicked in three of the past four years). It’s a trend they’d like to continue in the Russell Athletic bowl.
3. Will Rutgers keep its bowl winning streak going?
They’ve won five in a row, tied for best in the country along with Mississippi State. Say what you will about some of those bowl Rutgers has been to, this is an impressive streak regardless. Now Rutgers can extend their winning ways to six bowl games in a row, doing so in the most prestigious bowl they’ve ever been to in school history.
Fourth and short
Rutgers can get to 10 wins for just the third time in school history.
Quote of the week
“We have a motto that says when it’s time to work it’s time to work. There’s going to be a lot of distractions, a lot of events to go to, but when we step between those lines it’s time to work.” – middle linebacker Steve Beauharnais
