Rutgers’ Jawan Jamison And Andre Civil Injury Update

By Matt Sugam

PISCATAWAY – As Rutgers had their first practice of the week preparing for Cincinnati, not much has changed on the injury front. Head coach Kyle Flood said running back Jawan Jamison (ankle) and right guard Andre Civil (leg) are still “50-50” for the game Saturday.

If Jamison is out, it means Savon Huggins will get a bulk of the carries. While Huggins has spelled Jamison throughout the season, they’re two backs with two different styles.

“Most of the good runners are the same until they get past the line of scrimmage. And then it becomes what type of runner are you. I’d say Savon is still the slasher, run through your arms mold. A little bit more like Ray [Rice] ran than Jawan would be,” Flood said. “But I don’t think we would tweak the offense in any way. ”

Still Huggins, hasn’t been the threat as a receiver out of the backfield that Jamison has. Huggins has just three catches in his career while Jamison has 25 this year.

“He hasn’t had a lot of opportunities, but he’s done a good job in practice. And he’s done a good job as a protector, so it’s not a situation where we’d have to take him our for certain things,” Flood said. “He really is a complete player. He just hasn’t necessarily had enough snaps to show that in games, but in practice he’s done all that stuff for us, so I don’t think it would change.”

Note: Ka’Lial Galud was “dinged up” and missed practice, but should be back at practice tomorrow. Kicker Kyle Federico’s (hip) status has not changed.
