Kyle Flood leaves the door open for a quarterback competition

By Matt Sugam

Following the Russell Athletic Bowl, Kyle Flood emphatically stated Gary Nova was Rutgers starting quarterback despite Nova’s struggles down the stretch.

Well, that could change.

Last night on SNY’s Loudmouths, Chris Carlin asked Flood if there would be an open quarterback competition in the spring. And the head coach’s answer was different than it was at the end of December.

“We don’t call it that. We have a returning starter in Gary Nova,” Flood said. “But every player in our program comes out ready to fight for their position everyday.”
