Kyle Flood Downplays Rutgers’ Top 25 Ranking

By Matt Sugam

For the first time since November 15, 2009, Rutgers is one of the Top 25 college football teams in the country. After a 4-0 start, Scarlet Knights checked in at No. 23 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

While it’s only the sixth season in school history that Rutgers is ranked in the Top 25 and second 4-0 start since 1980, Kyle Flood did his best to downplay the accolade.

“I really don’t have reaction to it,” the first-year head coach said on his Sunday conference call with reporters. “I think the fans will probably enjoy it, but for us it’s only four games out of 12. It’s great to be in the position we’re in right now, but the most important thing we can do is do a great job with the bye week and hopefully get ready to win another Big East game the following week.”

Note: As for the injury updates, Flood had no update on fullback Michael Burton (leg), who was injured last night, and probably won’t until after practice on Tuesday. Flood said he’s “very optimistic” that Savon Huggins (lower leg) will be available for the UConn game after this week’s bye.
