Greg Schiano thanks Chip Kelly for his job
By Matt Sugam
Last year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coveted Chip Kelly for their vacant head coaching position. Kelly rejected the Bucs offer to stay at Oregon one more year before jumping to the NFL this year as the Eagles head coach.
In turn, Greg Schiano was offered and took the Bucs head coaching job. So when asked on Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine if he had any advice for Kelly, Schinao instead took the time to share his gratitude toward Kelly for turning down the Bucs job a year ago.
“My biggest advice would be to say, ‘Thank you, Chip.’ Had Chip not decided what he did last year, I wouldn’t be standing here,” Schiano said. “I’m happy for Chip. He’s going to do a great job.
“I know it’s something he’s excited about doing. I met with him at the Senior Bowl and he doesn’t need any advice from me. He’s going to do an excellent job.”
