Gary Nova Named Big East Offensive Player Of The Week

By Matt Sugam

After a career best performance, Gary Nova received his first major acknowledgment from the Big East.

The former Don Bosco Prep product was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Week today after a career-high 397 yard, five touchdown outing to lead Rutgers past Arkansas.

“We’re certainly honored Gary would get that award,” head coach Kyle Flood said on the Big East conference call. “Probably the most impressive thing to me about the day was the amount of different receivers he completed the ball to. We’re really pleased how he allowed the offense to work for him which is really important for any quarterback – especially a young quarterback – and he seems to be getting better at that every week. ”

With the win, Rutgers improved to 4-0 for just the second time since 1980. They also received their first Top 25 ranking since 2009. The Scarlet Knights are ranked No. 23 in AP Poll and No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Rutgers has a bye this week before returning home to take on Big East foe UConn on October 6.
