Rutgers falls to Notre Dame

By Matt Sugam

NEW YORK – Rutgers’ Big East Tournament came to and with a 69-61 lost to Notre Dame. Here’s what to take away from the game:

Three pointer

1. Johnson fights the Irish

Clearly, Austin Johnson didn’t want his career at Rutgers to end. The senior forward banged around with Notre Dames big men and was the best player in Rutgers’ front court just like he surprisingly has much of the season. He finished with a career-high 18 points shooting along with six rebounds and a block.

2. Judge disappears

Talk about a Jekyll and Hyde performance. After a double-double with career-high 18 points where he tied a Big East record for going 9-of-9 from the field, Judge was a nonfactor. He finished with two points on 1-0f-6 from the field and one rebound.

3. Shooting woes from the line

Rutgers was down right terrible the free throw line. Sure they didn’t get all that many chances with just 11 attempts. But there’s no excuse for shooting 46  percent from the charity stripe. It’s nicknamed that for a reason.
