Rutgers beats DePaul

By Matt Sugam

NEW YORK – Rutgers defeated DePaul 76-57 in the first round of the Big East Tournament. Here’s what to take away from the game:

Three Pointer

1. Light out

Rutgers got hot early and it stayed that way for the entire game. They shot 61% from the field. And they did so in many different ways. The Scarlet Knights did a good job attacking the basket, and good shot selection from the rest of the floor.

2. Judge explodes

Wally Judge hasn’t lived up the the expectations he had coming with an up and down season after transferring from Kansas State. Against DePaul the McDonald’s All-American broke out with a career-high 20 points going 9-of-9 from the field. He also had 10 rebounds and two blocks.

3. Cleaning the glass

When it comes to attacking the glass, Rutgers put on a clinic. The Scarlet Knights out-rebounded the Blue Demons by 15. And it wasn’t just from Rutgers’ big men. Point guard Jerome Seagears chipped in with  seven rebounds.

And one

Rutgers will take on sixth seeded Notre Dame in the second round Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m.
