Rutgers has picked up its third commitment from the class of 2013.
Chris Griffin, a 6-f00t-7, 225 pound small forward verbally committed to Rutgers this morning a source told SNY.tv and was later confirmed by AAU coach Chris Ayers and Griffin.
Griffin hails from the junior college ranks, coming from Wabash Valley Community College in Illinois. He is the second JUCO commit of 2013 for Rutgers with Craig Brown being the first.
“He’s a kid that can put it on the floor, knock down the three, lead the break and is very unselfish.” Ayers told SNY.tv. “He’s a big wing that’s very skilled. Can play multiple positions, can score at all levels on the floor and has a great feel for the game.”
Griffin is ranked No. 14 overall nationally in the junior college ranks by jucorecruiting.com and has two years of eligibility left.
Griffin also held offers from Auburn, Miami, Florida Gulf Coast, San Francisco and St. Bonaventure.
The reason Griffin – who said he hears the “Family Guy” reference due to his name almost daily – chose Rutgers was simple.
“I loved the relationships that the players have with one another. The coaches all have great relationships with the players too,” Griffin told SNY.tv “Everyone up here from coaches to players is passionate and loves the game of basketball. I love that.
“And a Rutgers degree goes a long way. Great academics. I just feel comfortable there.”
